Favorite Moments While Traveling

Hi guys,

As you may know, in the last months of 2015 I made a roadtrip through the United States.
I had such a great time there. And I wanted to share some of the moments in which I was the happiest. Hope you enjoy!

  • sunsets, especially the ones in California
  • trying new coffee places
  • hearing Christmas music everywhere
  • writing in my travel diary
  • mornings at the hostel; making plans with people you just met 10 minutes ago
  • seeing the things (e.g. Times Square) you saw in movies
  • beautiful views from the Greyhound bus
  • walking around for the first time in a new city
  • trying new food (I have become obsessed with chili cheese fries)
  • meeting inspirational people who will change your perspective on life

Reminders for the New Year

Hi guys,

2016 is still fresh, new and full of opportunities. That’s why I wanted to share some of the reminders which make me feel like I’m improving myself. I find it hard to keep my resolutions, so I was wondering if this would work better for me.

  1. Stop spending time with shitty people.
There are a lot of people out there who will make you feel unwanted, dumb, annoying, etc. It’s just not worth it to spend time with people who don’t make you feel good about yourself. Figuring that out now, can save you a lot of regret about wasted time with those people, and that’s time you will never get back. Your time is precious, remember that.
  2. Set goals for each month.
I recently bought an adorable notebook from Hema and I thought it would be perfect for getting organised. In that notebook I’ll be putting my monthly goals (such as; run X miles, read X books, etc.). But also for example birthdays that are coming up, songs I have to listen to and inspirational quotes. It’s like a planner and I’m really hoping this works out.
  3. A good night’s sleep can fix almost anything.
It doesn’t matter if you’re getting over a breakup or just feeling under the weather. After those 8 hours of sleep you might be still heartbroken, but you’ll feel rested and it will be a lot easier to move on when you take good care of yourself.

And last but not least a few self-explanatory reminders:
– Listen to amazing music
– Sleeping with make-up on will give you breakouts
– Red lipstick will (most likely) make you feel instantly better
– Smile as often as you can
– Sit up straight
– ENJOY

Happy new year everybody, make 2016 a good one!

My week in New York

Hi guys,

So last week I spent a few nights in the Upper West Side. At this hostel to be exact. On Thursday the 29th I arrived at 8pm, the view from the plane was amazing. It looked like the whole city was covered in billions of lights.

So after getting through Customs, I was tired and hungry and all I wanted to do was sleep. Luckily I had ordered a transfer which would take me to the hostel. I finally slept at 1am.

Even though I was tired, my jetlag woke me up around 4am and I sadly couldn’t sleep after that. New York City indeed never sleeps. There were sounds of trucks and people singing, a huge contrast with the small and quiet town I live in.

After a while I wasn’t tired anymore: I was excited to explore New York! Planning isn’t really my thing when I travel, so I just walked around the neighbourhood with my PSL.

View from my room!

Around noon I took the first Subway I saw. ‘Hey, this one is going to Times Square, let’s go there!’ Times Square is impressive. There are so many lights and people and everything makes noise. Ofcourse I had to take a picture with the people dressed as random characters from TV shows.

 Note: they expect tips!

Spotted: a huge H&M. I thought the H&M in Amsterdam was big but this was just wow… I didn’t know where to start. I grabbed a few cute tops and went to the dressing rooms. Which are beautiful, I mean look at this wall!

I didn’t buy anything because I am very picky about clothes lately. After this I realized I hadn’t eaten all day. I was probably too excited about finally being in New York City that I totally forget about breakfast. And lunch.
I realize this post is gonna be very long if I tell you about my whole week. So I thought I would call this part one, next week there will be a part two with more pictures! Hope you enjoyed reading this.

Airplane essentials

Hey guys,
So in a week I’ll be going to New York City, as I mentioned in my previous post. Therefore, I thought I’d make a list of the stuff I need to keep me sane on a 6-hour long flight.

Book
As the bookworm I am, I got to have a book with me at all times. Reading will make the time go faster, and before you know it you’ll be at your destination. I haven’t decided on which book to take yet, I’m doubting between The Great Gatsby and Eleanor & Park.

Scarf
It can get quite cold on airplanes, so I always like to bring my big scarf with me to keep me warm with this improvised blanket. Speaking of clothing, I make sure I carry an extra pair of underwear and socks.  You never know whether your luggage will arrive at the right destination.

My phone
Of course with enough music so I can listen to my playlist for hours. I always have a hard time concentrating on the movies they show, so I will have to take care of my own entertainment in airplanes.

Food
An obvious one, the food cart will never come when you’re hungry. Almonds and chocolate chip cookies are usually my go-to airplane food that will prevent me from buying a $7 sandwich. Oh, and don’t forget chewing gum!

Passport
Needless to say, without this you won’t be going anywhere.

Bottle of water
Same with the food, the flight attendants will almost never be there when you’re thirsty. And most of the time I’m too lazy to ask so I make sure I always have my own bottle with me.

Vacation haul

Hi guys!

I just got back from France so I’m sorry this post is uploaded a little later today. It’s a bit dark already so the quality of the pictures isn’t really great. Anyway I want to show you what I bought this summer in Italy, Spain and France. I bought most things in France though. In Spain and Italy I mostly bought cocktails which you can probably tell from my instagram…

IMG_0925IMG_0934

IMG_0933I bought two bags, because I just can’t resist a pretty bag. The second thing I bought was a scarf for this autumn and winter season. I also saw this shirt and, since I like all the cities on them, I immediately loved it. The bottle in the middle is violet sirup which you can use to make purple cocktails (cocktailparty!). IMG_0931We also visited a super cute store in Saumur in France and the owner of the store was a super hot guy so ofcourse I had to buy something. There I bought the little blue lipgloss. It’s shaped like a macaroon and it’s blueberry flavoured. The book on the picture is open and has space to keep something in. It has a really pretty map on the front of Europe. IMG_0929Lastly I bought a lot of Yankee Candle. These get soft when you heat them up and they smell delicious. I bought turquoise sky, red rasberry, shea butter, fireside treats and black coconut. So my room will smell like heaven for the upcoming year or so.
And that’s it! See you next time.

My 12 worst purchases

Hi guys!

Here are the 12 worst purchases I did over the past few years.

IMG_3807A very blue leather jacket

I wanted a leather jacket and I really like the colour blue, so I bought this jacket. After a while I started to hate it, because it was so blue and it didn’t really go with much. It’s so blue. IMG_3808Should’ve gone with black.

Printed scarf

That print. Those fringes.

IMG_3812Oversized turned wrong size

This sweater was meant to look oversized, but I thought it was a little too oversized so I bought it in the smallest size possible. I should’ve sticked to my own size or shouldn’t have bought it, because the arms turned out way too short and I grew out of it way too quickly.

IMG_3814Pink is the new blue

There was that short period where everyone had that cable sweater from H&M and so did I. Only the blue one that I wanted was sold out, so I bought the pink one instead. It was so bright, barbie-pink I didn’t wear it much.

IMG_3816Cheap sweaters

“Oh this is three euros! I’ll just take it with me, because it’s only three euros.” So I got stuck with cheap clothes that itch, look stupid and aren’t my colour. Bad purchase. Even when it’s only three euros.

IMG_3817Crop tops are for skinny bitches

I went shopping with a friend and I bought this crop top (If you can even call it a crop top. I just think it’s too short to call it a shirt.), because it had little eifeltowers on it. Turns out I hate crop tops. It’s a mystery to me how people can wear crop tops and not feel fat.

IMG_3818Accidental oversized blouse

This really cute blouse was sold out in my size in black and I was like “That’s okay, I’ll just get it in an L.”. Then someone else at my school had the same blouse in the right size and I realized how stupid I looked in my way-too-big-blouse. I looked like I was drowning in all of it. Oops.

IMG_3819Don’t be fooled by it’s comfy look

This pyjama pants looked so comfy and I already visioned myself wearing these while reading a book with some hot choco next to a fireplace. I was so wrong. The pants is soft, but it’s not elastic at all. It doesn’t give in when I’m moving and the rope to tie it around my waist cuts in my skin. I have worn it once since I bought it. The print and colour are cute though.

IMG_3820A little too much

This blouse was actually kind of expensive, but the print is a little much. Which makes it extra worse that the sleeves are bat sleeves. So there’s a lot of fabric with a lot of print. It’s just too much of everything.

IMG_3821Glamorous fly

I really liked the glamorous look celebs always had with their big sunglasses, but mine were way too big and made me look like a fly. A very glamorous fly though.

IMG_3824Primark strikes again

I saw a lot of cute sunglasses at primark for only 1,50 euros. I bought two of these sunglasses there and the middle one at a stand in Rome for three euros. The lesson I learned is to check if they actually protect against the sun, because if they are very cheap they usually have no UV-protection. They didn’t work at all and I had to buy a new one.

IMG_3829Sucker for sale

This bikini top was on sale, but there was no matching bottom. I bought it anyway thinking I’d find one. Turns out pink isn’t always pink. It can be salmon or neon pink or fuchsia. I bought a bikini a year later and it accidently matched colours so I could finally wear it. But I’m not making that mistake again soon.
